UCSB Arts & Lectures has an unwavering commitment both to bringing big ideas and stellar performances to our community, and to fostering connection through the arts and conversation. A&L’s mission to Educate, Entertain and Inspire produces K-12, UCSB and lifelong learning opportunities that enrich our lives.
Help secure dynamic programming in Santa Barbara by including Arts & Lectures in your estate plans.
What long-term impact would you like to make at A&L? Are you interested in supporting performance, lectures, education or areas of greatest need? We can work with you to help define your philanthropic vision and shape your intent to benefit you, your family and A&L.
Next… consider how you will fund this vision.
Planned gifts are funded by a donor’s assets, including cash, stock, real property, retirement plan assets, life insurance policies, business interests and more. Utilizing any (or a combination) of these assets to establish a UCSB Arts & Lectures legacy may provide you with highly beneficial tax savings, and certain gift opportunities can provide additional lifetime income.
That leads to the next question…
What is most important to you as you prepare your estate plans?
Do you plan to leave your estate to your heirs? We can help you determine the best assets to gift that may avoid inheritance taxes.
Is it your wish to avoid capital gains with the sale of real property? We can create a charitable remainder trust or charitable gift annuity to help offset that gain.
Need additional income? We can explore which assets may work for a life income gift.
Name the UC Santa Barbara Foundation as a beneficiary in your will or living trust and direct funds to support Arts & Lectures.
Beneficiary designations of retirement plans, life insurance or annuities are easy and flexible.
Charitable Gift Annuities
These gifts, created with cash, stock or occasionally real property, are initiated through a contract with the UC Regents that guarantees a lifetime income stream and tax savings.
Charitable Remainder Trusts (CRT)
Established with cash or appreciated assets such as stock or real property, this gift can help you avoid capital gains and provide an income stream for life or a term of years.
The A&L Legacy Circle honors donors who have generously included Arts & Lectures in their estate plans through some form of planned or deferred gift.
Once you complete your estate plans, we encourage you to fill out our Declaration of Intent, which allows us to recognize you for your generosity and welcome you as a new member of both the UC Santa Barbara and the A&L Legacy Circles.
In recognition of A&L Legacy Circle support, we offer donors the following special benefits:
Learn how others have made an impact on the future of Arts & Lectures.
Investing for the Future
Tim and Audrey Fisher have been involved with Arts & Lectures since they bought a home in Santa Barbara in 2000, and together they have sponsored many programs and performances. Tim was part of the creation of the Arts & Lectures Advisory Council and is a leader in the establishment of A&L’s Legacy Program.
Several years ago, Tim generously made an irrevocable, outright commitment to A&L in his estate plan. As he puts it, “Bequests and other planned gifts are elegantly simple – in most cases it requires only a paragraph in your will or trust.”
Naming an Endowment
Heather and Tom Sturgess support Arts & Lectures in many ways. With Tom serving on the A&L Advisory Council and Heather serving as an A&L Ambassador, they are active promoters of Arts & Lectures in the community. Heather and Tom chose to create a named endowment with their generous estate gift. This legacy will provide a stable capital base and financial security from which A&L can draw support for years to come, offering continued exceptional events for the community to enjoy.
A Legacy of Invention
Susan Matsumoto and Mel Kennedy devote much of their time to attending the various programs produced by Arts & Lectures. As Susan says, “we not only appreciate the programming, but love the fact that Arts & Lectures introduces the arts to schools in the local community.” The couple feels so passionately that they have named A&L as a beneficiary of a percentage of their retirement plan. With their legacy gift, Susan and Mel will leave their mark on the future of cultural and educational programming in Santa Barbara.
Learn more with the tools on the UC Santa Barbara Planned Giving website or read our Donor Stories to discover how others have decided to leave a legacy to Arts & Lectures. Once you share your intent to contribute a future gift, or make an outright endowment gift, you will be recognized as a member of the A&L Legacy Circle.
