Summer Film FAQs

Attendees can start setting up at noon (12 PM) on the day of the screening. To protect the lawn, only blankets that are permeable (no plastic/nylon/tarps) are permitted. Chairs should also be low-backed and low to the ground.

Please note: rangers and staff are not responsible for any personal property and will remove non-breathable blankets or other items that harm the lawn.

Well-behaved dogs on a leash are permitted. Please remember to bring waste bags and clean up after your dog.

Food is not sold on site, however attendees are welcome to bring their own or visit one of the many nearby restaurants or markets. Trash cans will be available; please make sure to dispose of your food containers and other waste appropriately.

Alcohol is permitted within the Sunken Garden while attending the film screening, however attendees may be ejected for disruptive or inappropriate behavior.

A ranger or other security personnel will be on site both before and during the screenings, however they are not responsible for guarding personal property.

Portable toilets (including an accessible toilet) will be available at the intersection of Santa Barbara and Anapamu streets.

While the majority of the Sunken Garden is grass, there is a paved area with a view of the screen that is wheelchair accessible. Enter via the path on Anapamu Street or the archway on Anacapa Street.

Street parking is available on adjacent streets, and there are multiple city lots nearby on Anacapa Street with paid parking.

Free round-trip transportation from Isla Vista and the UCSB campus will be available to UCSB students with valid student ID. Santa Barbara Airbus will depart from Seville Road (near the IV Food Co-op) at 7 PM and the University Plaza loop adjacent to Campbell and Cheadle halls at 7:15 PM, and pick up at 10:45 PM from the Figueroa Street side of the courthouse to return to IV and campus.

There are no mask or vaccination requirements at this time since the screenings are outdoors, but that may change. Please check our Health & Safety page for updates closer to the date of the event.
