If you can't find the answers you're looking for in the FAQs below, or need any assistance, please contact the A&L ticket office. They're available and answering questions Monday-Friday, 10 AM-5 PM, as well as one hour before and 30 minutes into each virtual event.

Tickets

How do I purchase tickets for virtual events?

Tickets can be purchased online or by phone at (805) 893-3535. If you purchase a virtual event by phone, you may be asked to set up a website login, which you will need for viewing the events online.

Can I buy tickets for a friend or family member?

Virtual event tickets are attached to your personal A&L account, so it is not possible to share them with others who will not be viewing on the same device. If you wish to gift a ticket for a virtual event, please contact the A&L ticket office.

I’m a UCSB student. How do I get a ticket at the UCSB student price?

Most virtual events are free for full-time, currently-enrolled UCSB students. UCSB students must register or "buy" a $0 ticket in advance (perm number and umail.ucsb.edu email address required; one ticket per perm/umail).

Can I get a refund if I missed my event?

Tickets for virtual events are non-refundable. On-demand access is available to ticket holders for 48 hours post-event for most performances, and 7 days post-event for most lectures. Some exceptions may apply; please refer to the specific event page on the A&L website for details.

How do I watch Creating Hope with His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama?

Access to Creating Hope with His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama on May 18 is free and open to all; no tickets or registration required. The virtual event will be live streamed on YouTube, Facebook, and the A&L Website. After the live stream, the recording will be available to watch in perpetuity.

Accessing Virtual Events

Where can I find my virtual events?

Your events are available on the Virtual Events page of your Arts & Lectures account, and can be accessed from any internet browser on your computer or mobile device. (Note: virtual events cannot be watched on the A&L mobile app). Your events are listed by purchase date, not event date, and access to specific event pages will be available a few days prior to each broadcast.

It is strongly recommended that you access your Virtual Events page at least a day or two before your event, to ensure you are able to log in successfully and that you see your event listed. Please also plan to log in at least 5-10 min prior to the live stream to confirm your video and audio are working properly.

If you don't remember your password for the A&L website, use the "forgot password" link on the login page. If you are unsure what email address is connected to your account, please contact the ticket office. (Do NOT create a new account online; a new account will not be associated with your virtual event purchase.)

What if I don't see my virtual events on the Virtual Events page of my account?

If you can't find your virtual event listed in the "Virtual Events" section of your account, please contact the ticket office.

Watching Virtual Events

What device do I use to watch?

Stream your virtual events on a computer, laptop, phone, tablet - any device with a browser and internet connection. For the best viewing experience, we strongly recommend having a good internet connection and making sure your browser is up to date.

When can I start watching my event?

The live stream (if applicable) will begin at the time listed for each event, however the viewing page will be available a few days prior. Log on at least 5-10 minutes early ensure your video and audio are working properly (a pre-event slideshow with music will be playing). Once the live stream is over, most events will be available for a period of on demand viewing.

Can I watch a virtual event after the posted time?

On-demand access is available to ticket holders for 48 hours post-event for most performances, and 7 days post-event for most lectures. Some exceptions may apply; please refer to the specific event page on the A&L website for details. We recommend watching live to take full advantage of online chat and Q&A opportunities.

Can I watch on my television?

There are several options for mirroring content from your computer or mobile device to your TV. We recommend testing these options well in advance, so you’re ready when the event begins. (Use any YouTube or Vimeo video to test, as Airplay/casting may not be possible until the live stream starts.)

  • HDMI cable - many desktop and laptop PCs have an HDMI port that you can use to connect directly to your TV.
  • AppleTV – "Airplay" from iOS devices or "Mirror" from your Mac browser.
  • ChromeCast – "Cast" from the Google Chrome browser on your PC or Mac.
  • SmartTVs – Find more information on mirroring to your TV at these links – RokuTV; AndroidTV

How do I make the video full screen?

The video player has a button in the lower right corner so you can toggle to full screen. Note that if you view the video full screen, you will not be able to see the chat/Q&A window. If the full screen button isn't working, you may need to wait for the event to go live.

What do I do if my video freezes?

If you experience any issues with video during a live stream, try refreshing the page in your browser. It is recommended that you have your login information handy, in case you need it after refreshing the page. If you continue to have issues with the video or audio dropping due to a slow internet connection, try lowering the video quality by selecting the settings/gear icon at the bottom of the video.

What if I can't hear any sound?

If the video is playing but you don’t hear any sound, please check the following:

  • The video, your computer, and the browser are all unmuted.
  • When you first get to the page, if you hover over or click on the video and an "unmute" button appears, select it.
  • Clear your browser history/cache/cookies or try a different browser (Chrome and Safari recommended)

If you continue to have trouble, contact the ticket office at (805) 893-3535. They are available and answering phones one hour before and 30 minutes into each live stream.
