“Lizz Wright is celebrated for one thing in particular: her sumptuously earthy voice, which commands strict and often spine-tingling attention.” The New York Times

“A superbrain for what serious jazz sounds like now.” The New York Times

An all-star ensemble comprising the finest performers and composers in jazz today, SFJAZZ Collective is joined by jazz and gospel singer Lizz Wright to reimagine the music of the incomparable Joni Mitchell. With a luxuriant voice redolent of the red soil that sustained her growing up in Georgia, Wright sanctifies every song she sings. Mitchell’s emotionally bracing and musically ambitious work on albums like Blue has allowed her to transcend her folk-music origins and made her an essential poet of the American experience – one recognized by the likes of Charles Mingus and Herbie Hancock. The SFJAZZ Collective will bring fresh arrangements of classic music by a remarkable singer-songwriter, along with newly-commissioned pieces by members of the group.
