Two Nights! Two Programs!
“The Joffrey dancers, costumed and lit and shockingly talented, are like a rock concert for the eyes.” Huffington Post
“Balletgoing rarely gets more rewarding... The dancers reach for – and often grasp – new levels of achievement.” Chicago Tribune
Among America’s premier ballet companies, Chicago-based Joffrey Ballet is committed to artistic excellence and innovation, presenting a unique repertoire encompassing masterpieces of the past and cutting-edge works. The cornerstone of their wide-ranging program is Tony Award-winning choreographer Justin Peck’s youthful and vigorous The Times Are Racing, set to music by Baltimore electronic music wizard Dan Deacon. Opposing sides of Israeli choreographer Itzik Galili are evident in his neoclassical pas de deux Mono Lisa and his theatrical trio The Sofa. The reflective and exuberant Bliss! shows Stravinsky’s range as a composer as well as the choreographic prowess of Stephanie Martinez, the first Chicago woman of color to create a work for this company. Created for The Joffrey, Andrew McNicol’s Yonder Blue “gives a sense of awesome wonderment” (Chicago Tribune). Famed British choreographer Liam Scarlett’s hypnotic and alluring Vespertine is a sensual powerhouse production that incites audible gasps of delight.
