A 24-Decade History of Popular Music: 1906-1926 (2015/2016 Performing Arts)
“Fabulousness can come in many forms, and Taylor Mac seems intent on assuming every one of them.” The New York Times
Taylor Mac is a playwright, actor, singer-songwriter and performance artist who has been called “a critical darling of the New York scene” (New York Magazine) and “one of the most exciting theater artists of our time” (Time Out New York). Mac’s A 24-Decade History of Popular Music is a decade-by-decade revue exploring the evolution of American attitudes and ideas through pop music. A sharp social critic and glittering, elaborately costumed showman, Mac is so much more than a cabaret artist, describing himself as “the Elizabethan fool… phantasmagorical enough to say what everyone knows is true.” In Santa Barbara we are delighted to present Mac as he performs two decades of his ambitious project, 1906-1926, backed by a live band - drums, piano, guitar, bass and more.
