The Phantom of the Opera (2010 Season)

Wed, Aug 18, 2010 @ 7:30 PM, Campbell Hall

Possibly the most famous of all silent films, The Phantom of the Opera features Lon Chaney’s signature performance as the grotesquely scarred composer who haunts the Paris Opera House. Obsessed with a beautiful young woman he seeks his revenge on those he blames for his fate. The ornate sets, costumes and Chaney’s exceptional acting bring to life a film unmatched by today’s high tech special effects. This stunning version has been remastered with color tints, the original two strip Technicolor sequence and a lush orchestral score. (1925, 80 min.) Also showing on Fri, Aug. 20 at 8:30 PM / The Sunken Garden at the SB Country Courthouse, Films presented by UCSB Arts & Lectures, Santa Barbara County Park Foundation, Santa Barbara County Arts Commission and the Santa Barbara Film Commission.

Sponsored by the Santa Barbara Independent and KCSB 91.9. Films at UCSB are presented with support from ACTIEF and the Freshman Summer Start Program.
